Mary Newton
Piano
Dr. Newton holds a BA degree in Music from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN, a Master's in Church Music degree from Concordia University Chicago in River Forest, IL, and a DMA in organ performance from the University of Minnesota. While at the University of Minnesota Dr. Newton also studied music education as well as piano pedagogy.
Having over 15 years of private piano teaching experience, Dr. Newton is actively involved with the Federation of Music Clubs and has served as president for one of the local Twin Cities clubs. She regularly places her students in Federation festivals and her students are consistently rated in the upper percentile.
Dr. Newton is also very active in the American Guild of Organists. She is the student competition coordinator for the Twin Cities annual organ competition and also serves on the committee for the National Competition for Organ Improvisation. Additionally, she has written articles for “The American Organist” and “Clavier Companion” and has been a presenter at regional AGO convention and the MMTA conventions.
