Scotty Horey (B.A., M.M.A., D.M.A.) (USA) is a passionate and versatile percussionist, drummer, and teacher based in the twin cities. He performs locally, nationally and internationally as a solo percussion artist, a percussionist/drummer for hire, and is a drums/percussion teacher of all levels: children, teen, college level, and adult. He is currently Assistant Professor/Lecturer of Percussion at the University of Minnesota-Morris, and Principal Percussionist of the Mankato Symphony Orchestra. His strongest passions in music and teaching include classical music, contemporary-classical music, progressive rock/fusion, solo marimba, mind/body "holistic" awareness, and cross cultural understanding. His passionate performing and teaching work has brought him through the USA, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Portugal, and Costa Rica, always advocating an international community through cultural exchange. Earning a finalist position in the prestigious McKnight Fellowship for Performing Musicians in 2017, Scotty was called “the Twin Cities’ hungriest young percussionist” by New Music Box, and “a performer of intelligence, raw artistry, and the utmost concentration and energy” by international icon composer James Dillon. His teachers have included some of the best and most accomplished in the world: Fernando Meza, Stuart Marrs, Katarzyna Mycka, and James Dillon. Scotty Horey is an endorsed artist for MAPEX drums, VIC FIRTH sticks, SABIAN cymbals, and MAJESTIC percussion.
